WPA Sorensen Promenade/Automotive History Interpretive Trail

  1. Trailhead Location: Spinoza Drive at the bottom of Derby Hill. GPS coordinates: 42.347661, -83.246233
  2. Mileage: about 500ft.
  3. Type of Trail: Loop or One-Way? One-way
  4. Key things to look out for: Three Interpretive signs explaining the history of the area and Charles Sorensen and his estate that once stood there.
  5. Best times to visit: dry weather
  6. Accessibility: muddy? What times of year? Bridges? Steps? Paved? Floods regularly, often muddy.
  7. History: built during the Great Depression along with a dam at the west end that created “Sorensen Lake” until the dam washed out. The Automotive History Interpretive Trail was built by FORP with grant funding by the Motor Cities Heritage Association and opened in 2018.
