Joe Prance Nature Trail

Joe Prance Nature Trail

  1. Trailhead Location: See Hiking Project for map!
  2. Mileage: ~1 mile 
  3. Type of Trail: Loop
  4. Key things to look out for: Old growth forest and deep ravines, tulip polar trees that bloom in May/June!)
  5. Best times to visit: all seasons!, Tulip Poplars flowering in May/June!
  6. Accessibility: Mostly dry year-round. 
  7. History: Like the Wildwood area, this area was never cleared and farmed. Originally named “Raccoon Hollow Trail”, it was connected to the Nature Center that was along the trail from 1957-1976 and heavily used with the Junior Forester and Junior Naturalist Programs run by the nature center. It used to connect to the Scout Hollow Trail that went around Scout Hollow Campground.
